Why North America Crop Insurance

Why the right crop insurance agency makes all the difference

Crop insurance isn't one-size-fits-all, and neither is your operation. As your advisor we can save you money, handle the paperwork, help you avoid costly mistakes, and make sure a claim gets paid when you need it most.

  • Coverage customized to you.

We build a plan that helps you meet your goals and fits your operation, not a package off the shelf. One size does not fit all.

  • We're independent.

We write with NAU Country, ProAg and RCIS, so we can compare options and recommend what's best for your farm.

  • We're crop specialists.

Crop and livestock insurance is all we do. That means deep knowledge of the federal program and the private products that build on it.

  • We handle the details.

Acreage reports, production history, deadlines and claims. We keep you on track so nothing slips through the cracks.

  • We're there when you need us.

Farming doesn't keep office hours, and neither do we. Call or text any time, or we'll meet you at the kitchen table or the shop.

Coverages

Coverage options in detail

Federal crop insurance is subsidized by USDA and sold through approved carriers like the ones we represent. Here's an overview of what we offer. Call us to talk through which fits your operation.

Federal · MPCI

Multi-Peril Crop Insurance

The foundation of most farm risk plans. MPCI protects against yield and revenue losses from natural causes, including drought, excess moisture, freeze, hail, wind, insects and disease. With revenue plans, it also covers a drop in market price.

  • Revenue Protection (RP) covers yield and price loss, and increases your guarantee if the harvest price goes up.
  • Yield Protection (YP) protects your production history at a set projected price.
  • Add-ons include the Supplemental Coverage Option (SCO), Enhanced Coverage Option (ECO) and prevented-planting coverage.
Corn · Soybeans · Cotton · Grain Sorghum · Wheat · etc.
Federal · PRF

Pasture, Rangeland & Forage

PRF protects hay and grazing land against lack of rainfall using a NOAA rainfall index for your area. No production records or loss adjustment are needed. You choose the two-month intervals that matter most to your operation, and you're paid when rainfall in your grid falls below normal.

Cattle producers · Hay growers · Pasture owners
Federal · LRP

Livestock Risk Protection

LRP sets a price floor for your cattle. If the market falls below your coverage price by the end of the endorsement period, you're paid the difference. It's available year-round, so you can buy coverage when it fits your marketing plan.

  • Feeder cattle, fed cattle and swine
  • Choose your coverage price and endorsement length
  • Federally subsidized premiums
Private

Private Crop Hail

Hail can wipe out a field in minutes. Crop Hail is private coverage that pays on a per-acre basis, and it can be purchased throughout most of the growing season, even after the crop is up.

  • Fills the gap below your MPCI deductible
  • In addition to hail, coverage may include fire and lightning, grain in storage, grain in transit, vandalism and wind
  • Fast, field-by-field adjusting
Private

Private Products

Each of our carriers offers private endorsements that build on your federal coverage. Options include boosting price elections, adding shallow-loss protection or covering replant and fire costs. Here are some of the most popular:

NAU Country

  • Base Price Modifier (BPM)
  • Price Modifier PLUS (PM+)
  • EASYrev® & RPowerD®
  • EASYeco
  • Replant Option
  • Pasture Fire

ProAg

  • Added Individual Modifier (AIM)

RCIS

RCIS offers a range of private supplemental products that work alongside your MPCI policy.

Federal

Annual Forage

For crops planted each year for grazing or haying, such as small grains, sorghum-sudan and ryegrass. Like PRF, it uses a rainfall index to trigger payments, so you're protected when dry weather hurts your forage supply.

Federal

Apiculture

Rainfall-index coverage for beekeepers. Because forage for bees depends on moisture, the Apiculture program pays when rainfall in your grid falls below normal during the intervals you select, protecting honey, pollen and wax production.

Crop 101

Crop insurance, explained

New to crop insurance, or just want a refresher? Here are the questions we hear most.

How does federal crop insurance work?

The federal crop insurance program is overseen by USDA's Risk Management Agency (RMA) and sold and serviced by approved insurance providers (AIPs) like NAU Country, ProAg and RCIS through agents like us. The government sets the rules and pays a share of your premium; the carrier issues the policy and pays claims.

How much does the government pay toward my premium?

Premium subsidies vary by plan, coverage level and unit structure, often from roughly 38% to 80% or more of the total premium. We'll show you the farmer-paid cost at every coverage level so you can compare.

What is APH and why does it matter?

Actual Production History (APH) is your average yield, based on your production records. Your guarantee is built from it, so accurate records, and the right yield adjustments, directly increase the coverage you receive. APH reports are due each year by your crop's production reporting date.

What's the difference between Revenue Protection and Yield Protection?

Yield Protection only pays if your bushels come up short. Revenue Protection pays if your revenue (yield × price) falls below the guarantee, covering both bad yields and falling prices, and it increases your guarantee if the harvest price goes up.

How does PRF work if there's nothing to adjust?

PRF is based on a rainfall index, not on your actual forage production. If rainfall in your grid during the intervals you chose comes in below normal, you're paid automatically. No claim to file and no adjuster visit.

What should I do if I have a loss?

Call us right away, generally within 72 hours of discovering damage and before you destroy, abandon or replant the crop. We'll file the notice of loss and coordinate with the adjuster.

Can I switch agents or carriers?

Yes. You can move your policy to a new agent or carrier before the sales closing date for your crop. We handle the transfer paperwork and bring your history with you.

Sales Closing Date

Acreage Report (AR)

Enterprise Units

Combining all fields of a crop in a county, usually for a lower premium.
